In the rapidly evolving field of wireless communications, effective collaboration is key to overcoming spectrum challenges faced by both defense and commercial sectors. On April 28, 2022, Key Bridge Wireless LLC hosted a highly productive monthly collaboration meeting for Project NSC-20-2093, serving as a comprehensive summary of Phase 1 under the DoD's "5G – Next G" program.
The virtual session, attended by representatives from AFRL, NIWC Atlantic, NSWC Crane, MITRE, Nokia, and other partners, reviewed critical elements including milestone tracking, program overviews, integrated schedules, technology standardization, deliverable updates, risks, and action items. Our team presented detailed progress across work streams, highlighting no blockers and smooth administrative processes.
Discussions emphasized our advancements in applying Environmental Sensing Capability (ESC) to the 3.1-3.45 GHz band, with lab tests replicating high-power radar scenarios to ensure reliable detection. We shared successful modeling results for airborne radar platforms like AWACS, using metrics to assess protection levels under varied conditions. Attendees appreciated updates on SAS miniaturization, now optimized for handling up to 10,000 devices while integrating as a real-time controller for Nokia's 5G RAN via the Xf emulator.
A standout aspect was our use of advanced machine learning: Cyril Masia detailed how we've generated signal libraries to train neural networks for pulse detection and parameter estimation, achieving high accuracy with efficient hardware setups. Feedback from stakeholders, including questions on data retention and interference logging, fostered valuable dialogue, leading to plans for deeper briefs on SAS metrics.
The meeting's positive tone, with resolved action items and clear next steps, reflects the strong partnership driving this initiative. As we transition to Phase 2 field testing, this momentum positions us to deliver deployable SCS solutions that enhance U.S. 5G leadership and national security.
We value the engagement from all participants and look forward to continued progress.
