Key Bridge Awarded Patent for Spectrum Sensing Capability
Date: September 19, 2016
McLean, VA – I’m proud to announce that the United States Patent and Trademark Office has awarded me U.S. Patent No. 9,357,395 for a system that protects non-informing transmitters from receiving interference.
This invention tackles one of the most difficult challenges in shared spectrum: empirically detecting and protecting incumbent systems—such as U.S. Navy radar—that do not broadcast identification signals and cannot be identified through databases alone.
For me, this patent represents years of focused effort to enable robust dynamic spectrum access while ensuring zero interference to sensitive federal operations. It provides the foundational claims needed to operate an Environmental Sensing Capability (ESC) in the 3.5 GHz band.
“This patent sits at the heart of our ESC, which is neutral, transparent, and secure by design,” I said. “I am excited to continue our collaboration with industry partners and the U.S. Government as we test, certify, and ultimately bring this capability to market.”
We have already incorporated this technology into our FCC proposals for both SAS and ESC in CBRS, and I believe it will play a key role as the ecosystem matures.
Thank you to our team and partners for their dedication in reaching this milestone.
